Hiking in Abel Tasman National Park (4 or 5 days) The Abel Tasman National Park has the best coastal walking of any National Park in New Zealand. Sparkling seas, quiet secluded bays, islets, regenerating native bush - all these combine to make the Abel Tasman Track one of the most popular walking routes in New Zealand. Our 5 days itinerary from Nelson to Nelson, makes use of the typical kiwi ‘bach’ or holiday home, still found on secluded patches of private land within the confines of the Park. The trips begin at Nelson airport & you are transferred to the small settlement of Marahau where the Abel Tasman Track begins. Your luggage will be transported by water taxi to your overnight stop while you only carry what you need in a day pack. Most of the walk is through coastal forest with stunning coastal views of isolated bays of crystal clear water, weirdly eroded rocky out crops, small arches, white sands differing at every turn. Your first night will be at Torrent Bay where you stay two nights. There are several options on the second day, including a short walk to Cleopatra’s Pool, a coastal journey along the Park by water taxi, or just a day of relaxing & swimming. You continue walking along the coast the next day to Awaroa. Again there are stunning views to Tonga Island & across Tasman Bay to the hills around Nelson. You spend the next two nights at a ’bach’ on the Awaroa Inlet.Again there are options for our day in Awaroa Inlet, including an optional sea kayaking excursion. On Day 5 you walk the rest of the track to Totaranui from where you are transported back to Nelson. Tour Cost from NZ$1300 per person. Full details & dates on application. |
